Charlotte

Charlotte FC were founded on 17 December 2019, when MLS awarded an expansion team to Carolina Panthers owner David Tepper at the Mint Museum; the COVID-19 pandemic pushed the debut back from 2021 to 2022. The coin-shaped crest, revealed in July 2020, carries "Minted 2022" in a nod to the historic Charlotte Mint, and its four-pointed crown refers to Uptown's four wards and the city's nickname, the Queen City; the crown also gives the team its own nickname. Home is Bank of America Stadium, shared with the Panthers.

The first home match, a 1-0 defeat by LA Galaxy on 5 March 2022, drew 74,479, then the largest crowd for a stand-alone MLS match, and the club averaged 35,260 in that first season, second only to Atlanta United. Charlotte first reached the playoffs in 2023 and qualified again in 2024 and 2025. In 2025 they won nine league matches in a row, tying the longest winning run within one MLS season since shootouts were dropped, and set a club record for points in a season.
