Barcelona ran riot at the Estadio de Mestalla, beating Valencia 5-0 in a Regular Season - 4 fixture that stretched their perfect start to the La Liga campaign. AI-assisted match report written from official match data.
Lamine Yamal opened the scoring in the sixth minute, converting an assist from Fermín, before Fermín himself doubled the lead in the 22nd minute with Anthony Gordon supplying the pass. Barcelona kept control after the break, with Raphinha making it 0-3 in the 50th minute from another Fermín assist. Pedri added a fourth in the 79th minute, set up by Dani Olmo, who then teed up Yamal for the fifth just five minutes later.
The statistics reflected Barcelona's total dominance: they had 74% of possession and struck 25 shots to Valencia's three, landing ten on target compared to the home side's two. Valencia could only muster a single corner to Barcelona's four across the ninety minutes, underlining how little of the game they saw.
Fermín was central to Barcelona's rout, scoring once and setting up two further goals to finish with a rating of 9.6, the highest of any player on the pitch.
Barcelona's 74% share of possession illustrated just how completely they controlled proceedings against a Valencia side reduced to chasing shadows.

Sirius · Why these numbers
Before kick-off Sirius gave Valencia 16%, the draw 24%, Barcelona 60%. It finished Valencia 0–5 Barcelona.
Barcelona's rating gap outweighs Valencia's home ground — Barcelona are clearly the stronger side on our strength rating, and the early-season home fade on top gives Barcelona a clear lead. The draw at 24% is lifted by the early-season fade in home wins.
Why Barcelona at 60%?
Barcelona sit 385 points higher on our strength rating — 1777 to 2163. Sides with a more than 300-point rating edge on the road won 65.9% of 5,236 such games. Both sides are inside their first six league games — home wins land softer this early in the season, so this trims Valencia's column. Across 10,972 opening-stretch games since 2010, home sides won 42.7% where the rating map expected 44.9%, with draws up 2.0 — negative in every season since 2018. The 300 most similar past games finished 17–23–60.
Why only 60%?
La Liga home sides out-perform the global norm — and the difference mostly flows to away wins (28.3% vs 30.2%). La Liga homes won 46.7% of 6,115 games vs 44.9% across all 99,907 — outside the noise band, so the tally moves accordingly.
Why the draw at 24%?
With a rating gap this size the draw starts at 21.8%. These teams' recent games average 2.9 goals — a typical goals environment. Games in that environment drew 24.6% of 25,004. Early-season fixtures add 2.0 points to the draw.
What did we measure but not count?
Barcelona average 23 points more possession, but the rating gap here is 385 points. Our control receipt only exists between near-equals — there it moved results; across a class gap we could not measure a separate style edge, so style scores 0 here. Valencia come into this after a busy window — 6 arrivals and 12 departures over the summer. Squad turnover reads dramatic but hasn't moved results once the rating is controlled: the busiest windows landed within noise across 5,368 games, rebuilt elevens likewise across 5,446, and even losing the most regular starters showed nothing (5,336). The other measured facts on this page scored nothing either.
