Match report
Troyes hold off Lorient fightback to win at Stade du Moustoir
Estac Troyes came from nowhere to beat Lorient 2-1 in a Ligue 1 Regular Season - 2 fixture at the Stade du Moustoir, despite spending long spells camped in their own half. The visitors made the most of their limited possession, taking a firm grip on the contest before the hosts could respond.
AI-assisted match report written from official match data.
Renaud Ripart opened the scoring from the penalty spot in the 29th minute, and Troyes doubled their advantage nine minutes later when Lucas Maronnier converted an Antoine Mille assist to make it 0-2 at the break. Lorient improved after the interval and pulled a goal back through Jean-Victor Makengo in the 51st minute, but they could not find a second to level matters.
Lorient dominated territory with 67 percent of possession and had more shots and corners overall, yet Troyes were clinical when it mattered and edged the underlying chances with an xG of 1.57 to 1.09. Souifi took charge of a contest that saw no cautions issued to either side.
Makengo capped his display with the goal that briefly threatened a Lorient comeback, earning a 7.6 rating for the hosts, while Monfray and Cadiou both finished with 7.7 for their respective sides.
Lorient's 67 percent of possession told only part of the story, as Troyes made their fewer touches count with the higher expected-goals return of the two sides.

Sirius · Why these numbers
Before kick-off Sirius gave Lorient 44%, the draw 31%, Estac Troyes 25%. It finished Lorient 1–2 Estac Troyes.
Lorient's rating edge, but the draw is in play — Lorient are a shade stronger on our strength rating, and that is most of Lorient's 44%. The draw at 31% is lifted by the early-season fade in home wins.
Why Lorient at 44%?
Lorient sit 51 points higher on our strength rating — 1748 to 1697. Sides with a 50–100-point rating edge at home won 50.6% of 10,384 such games.
Why only 44%?
Estac Troyes hold 6 more possession points (51 to 45 in recent games) — and between equals, control has been worth something. Between evenly-matched sides, when the visitors held this control edge the home team's win rate fell to 40.2% across 5,551 games, from 44.0% when styles were level. Both sides are inside their first six league games — home wins land softer this early in the season, so this trims Lorient's column. Across 10,761 opening-stretch games since 2010, home sides won 42.8% where the rating map expected 44.9%, with draws up 2.0 — negative in every season since 2018.
Why is the draw second, ahead of the Estac Troyes win?
With a rating gap this size the draw starts at 26.5%. These teams' recent games average 2.6 goals — a typical goals environment. Games in that environment drew 26.2% of 27,679. Early-season fixtures add 2.0 points to the draw. The goals environment adds 1.4 points to the draw.
What did we measure but not count?
Estac Troyes have gained 64 strength-rating points over their last 10 games. Momentum is measured but not yet proven: climbing sides won 41.4% of 12,243 such games vs 40.7% class-expected — inside the noise band, so it stays at 0 points until the receipt clears its evidence bar. Estac Troyes are newly promoted — game 2 of their first ten at this level, where our rating knows them least. Promoted sides ran below their rating in nine of the last ten seasons — 26.5% wins in their first ten games where the rating expected 30.0% (2,793 games since 2012), fading but still visible through game nineteen. The other measured facts on this page scored nothing either.
