Esteban Lepaul set the tone inside five minutes, converting from Adrien Thomasson's assist to give the hosts an early lead. Valentin Rongier doubled the advantage in the 26th minute, teed up by Issa Soumaré, only for Louis Mafouta to pull one back for Le Mans four minutes later with Lucas Calodat supplying the pass. Rennes went in 2-1 up at the interval.
Mafouta levelled from the penalty spot on 54 minutes to make it 2-2, and the contest tipped further in the away side's favour when Djibril Sidibé was sent off in the 68th minute, leaving Le Mans to see out the remainder with ten men. Despite the numerical disadvantage, they held firm until the sixth minute of added time, when Lepaul struck from the spot to complete his double and hand Rennes a 3-2 win.
Rennes dominated territory throughout, and their pressure told even as Le Mans found a way back into the game twice.
Lepaul scored both of Rennes' first-half and stoppage-time penalty goals, finishing with a rating of 8.2 to lead all performers on the pitch.
Rennes controlled 64% of possession, underlining their dominance of the ball despite Le Mans twice fighting back to level the scores.

Sirius · Why these numbers
Before kick-off Sirius gave Rennes 57%, the draw 24%, Le Mans 19%. It finished Rennes 3–2 Le Mans.
Rennes' rating edge carries it — Rennes are the stronger side on our strength rating, and that is most of Rennes' 57%. The draw at 24% is about what a gap this size usually leaves.
Why Rennes at 57%?
Rennes sit 128 points higher on our strength rating — 1756 to 1628. Sides with a 100–200-point rating edge at home won 57.1% of 12,760 such games. The 300 most similar past games finished 63–20–17.
Why only 57%?
Both sides are inside their first six league games — home wins land softer this early in the season, so this trims Rennes's column. Across 10,823 opening-stretch games since 2010, home sides won 42.8% where the rating map expected 44.9%, with draws up 2.0 — negative in every season since 2018.
Why the draw at 24%?
With a rating gap this size the draw starts at 24.2%. These teams' recent games average 3.4 goals — a high-scoring environment. Games in that environment drew 22.8% of 17,046. The goals environment takes 2.1 points off the draw. Early-season fixtures add 2.0 points to the draw.
What did we measure but not count?
Rennes have shed 94 strength-rating points over their last 10 games. Momentum is measured but not yet proven: sliding sides won 34.7% of 9,686 such games vs 34.6% class-expected — inside the noise band, so it stays at 0 points until the receipt clears its evidence bar. Le Mans have gained 69 strength-rating points over their last 10 games. Momentum is measured but not yet proven: climbing sides won 41.4% of 12,267 such games vs 40.7% class-expected — inside the noise band, so it stays at 0 points until the receipt clears its evidence bar. The other measured facts on this page scored nothing either.
