Ajax thrashed Willem II 5-1 at the Johan Cruijff Arena in an Eredivisie round three fixture, delivering a dominant home display that lifted them into the upper reaches of the table. Davy Klaassen opened the scoring in the 41st minute, converting a Kasper Dolberg assist, before Julian Brandt doubled the lead right on the stroke of half-time with Lucas Rosa teeing him up. Ajax went into the interval firmly in control at 2-0. The second half continued in the same vein as Viktor Tsygankov struck in the 69th minute, assisted by Oscar Gloukh, who then turned scorer himself five minutes later after Dolberg supplied the pass.
Willem II pulled a goal back through Alessandro Ciranni in the 76th minute, finished off Uriel van Aalst's assist, but it did little to interrupt the home side's momentum. Dolberg completed the scoring in the 87th minute to make it 5-1, capping a night in which Ajax dominated possession and peppered the visiting goal with attempts from start to finish.
Kasper Dolberg was involved in three of Ajax's five goals, scoring once and setting up two others, earning the highest rating on the pitch at 9.15.
Ajax's control was underlined by a 70% share of possession against Willem II's 30%.

Sirius · Why these numbers
Before kick-off Sirius gave Ajax 82%, the draw 12%, Willem II 6%. It finished Ajax 5–1 Willem II.
Ajax's rating gap decides it — Ajax are clearly the stronger side on our strength rating, and that is most of Ajax's 82%. The draw at 12% is lifted by the early-season fade in home wins.
Why Ajax at 82%?
Ajax sit 443 points higher on our strength rating — 1806 to 1363. Sides with a more than 300-point rating edge at home won 79.8% of 5,133 such games. The 300 most similar past games finished 85–10–5.
Why not higher?
Both sides are inside their first six league games — home wins land softer this early in the season, so this trims Ajax's column. Across 11,163 opening-stretch games since 2010, home sides won 42.7% where the rating map expected 44.9%, with draws up 2.0 — negative in every season since 2018.
Why is the draw only 12%?
With a rating gap this size the draw starts at 10.9%. These teams' recent games average 4.4 goals — a high-scoring environment. Games in that environment drew 22.8% of 17,220. Early-season fixtures add 2.0 points to the draw.
What did we measure but not count?
Ajax average 20 points more possession, but the rating gap here is 443 points. Our control receipt only exists between near-equals — there it moved results; across a class gap we could not measure a separate style edge, so style scores 0 here. Ajax won all 5 of their last meetings with Willem II: 3 at home and 2 away. These were 5 Eredivisie games played between 28 January 2021 and 13 April 2025. Latest meeting: 13 April 2025 — Willem II 1–2 Ajax. Across 9,328 historical matches involving teams that had won at least four of the previous five meetings, those teams won 55.7%, compared with 55.1% expected from team strength. The other measured facts on this page scored nothing either.
