France ease past Morocco to reach World Cup semi-finals
France defeated Morocco 2-0 in the World Cup quarter-finals at Gillette Stadium to book a place in the last four. The contest remained scoreless through a goalless first half before Didier Deschamps' side pulled clear with two goals in the space of six second-half minutes.
AI-assisted match report written from official match data.
Kylian Mbappé broke the deadlock in the 60th minute, finishing off an assist from Désiré Doué to put France ahead. Six minutes later Ousmane Dembélé doubled the advantage, converting a chance created by Mbappé to make it 2-0, and that scoreline held until the final whistle.
France dominated territorially and in front of goal, racking up 21 shots to Morocco's five and putting eight on target compared with a single effort from Mohamed Ouahbi's side. Morocco held a slight edge in possession but could not translate it into meaningful attacking threat.
Dembélé scored one and produced a rating of 8.9, the highest of any player on the pitch, while Mbappé contributed a goal and an assist in a productive afternoon for the France attack.
France's 3.1 expected goals figure against Morocco's 0.13 underlined the gulf in attacking quality between the two sides.

Sirius · Why these numbers
Before kick-off Sirius gave France 60%, the draw 21%, Morocco 19%. It finished France 2–0 Morocco.
France's rating gap decides it on neutral ground — France are clearly the stronger side on our strength rating, and that is most of France's 60%. The draw at 21% is lifted by neutral ground.
Why France at 60%?
France sit 245 points higher on our strength rating — 2147 to 1903. Sides with a 200–300-point rating edge at home won 67.1% of 5,855 such games.
Why only 60%?
A final at a neutral venue: France lose the usual home lift, so the class read is re-centred. On grounds we detect as neutral, listed-home sides won 44.6% of 26,581 games vs 45.2% at real homes.
Why is the draw only 21%?
With a rating gap this size the draw starts at 19.5%. These teams' recent games average 3.0 goals — a typical goals environment. Games in that environment drew 24.5% of 24,554. Neutral ground adds 2.2 points to the draw.
What did we measure but not count?
France scored +0.34 goals per game beyond chance-quality lately — hot streaks like that have cooled off. Measured across 2,693 games at this rating gap, hot-finishing sides won 42.2% vs 42.9% class-expected — inside the noise band, so it scores 0 until the receipt clears its evidence bar. France (17 fully-tracked matches with us) and Morocco (13) carry strength ratings anchored to the official international ratings list, so the class read stands on far more than our own short records. National sides play too few games for a record built from scratch, so their rating chain starts from the published international ratings instead of a blind first guess.
