San Diego edge FC Dallas with second-half Alvarado strike
San Diego secured a 1-0 win over FC Dallas in a Major League Soccer Regular Season - 17 fixture at Snapdragon Stadium, moving them off the foot of a tense afternoon despite their lowly league position. The only goal arrived early in the second half and proved decisive against a Dallas side that had arrived in better form.
AI-assisted match report written from official match data.
The breakthrough came in the 50th minute when Alejandro Alvarado converted from a M. Duah assist to make it 1-0, a lead San Diego would not relinquish. The hosts dominated the ball throughout, and once ahead they controlled the tempo, denying Dallas any route back into the contest.
San Diego's control was reflected across the statistics, with the hosts registering 19 shots to Dallas's five and holding 73 percent of possession. Dallas picked up two yellow cards but neither side saw red, and the visitors, who had won two of their previous three matches, could not force an equaliser despite the run of form they brought into the game.
Alejandro Alvarado scored the only goal of the match and finished with a rating of 8.3, sharing top billing with team-mate J. Tverskov on the same mark.
San Diego's 73 percent possession share underlined how completely they controlled proceedings against FC Dallas.

Sirius · Why these numbers
Before kick-off Sirius gave San Diego 49%, the draw 24%, FC Dallas 27%. It finished San Diego 1–0 FC Dallas.
Level sides, home ground swings it — Nothing separates them on our strength rating, and Major League Soccer home advantage gives San Diego the lean. The draw at 24% is held down by a high-scoring environment.
Why San Diego in front?
Home ground, mostly. Almost nothing between them on our strength rating — 1577 to 1594. Sides this close won 43.2% of 15,706 home games (draw 26.7%, visitors 30.1%). Major League Soccer home sides out-perform the global norm — and the difference mostly flows to away wins (25.8% vs 30.2%). Major League Soccer homes won 49.5% of 5,039 games vs 44.9% across all 98,308 — outside the noise band, so the tally moves accordingly.
Why only 49%?
Because on our strength rating there is nothing in it. Level sides split the rest: the draw at 24% and FC Dallas at 27%.
Why the draw at 24%?
Between sides this level the draw starts at 26.7%. These teams' recent games average 3.5 goals — a high-scoring environment. Games in that environment drew 22.8% of 16,708. The goals environment takes 2.2 points off the draw.
What did we measure but not count?
A 17-point possession gap between near-equal sides is unusual. Gaps this extreme are too rare to receipt — around 356 measured games, under our 300-game floor — so it's noted at 0 points. San Diego have shed 73 strength-rating points over their last 10 games. Momentum is measured but not yet proven: sliding sides won 34.8% of 9,528 such games vs 34.5% class-expected — inside the noise band, so it stays at 0 points until the receipt clears its evidence bar. The other measured facts on this page scored nothing either.
