Profile
Lamine Yamal is a Spanish winger who creates openings by changing what a defender has to protect. From the right, he can carry the ball inside to shoot, or pass over and through the defence to teammates moving towards goal.
Born on 13 July 2007, he joined Barcelona’s academy in 2014 after playing for CF La Torreta. He progressed through La Masia and had only recently begun playing for the under-19s when Xavi Hernández invited him to train with the first team.
His senior debut came against Real Betis on 29 April 2023, when he became Barcelona’s youngest player in LaLiga. In 2023/24 he moved from an occasional opportunity to regular involvement, making 50 first-team appearances across all competitions.
Spain’s EURO 2024 victory gave that breakthrough an international stage. He scored the equaliser against France in the semi-final, then supplied Nico Williams for the opening goal in the final against England. He finished with four assists and UEFA’s Young Player of the Tournament award.
That semi-final also showed how his dribbling fits a team attack. UEFA’s analysis explained how Jesús Navas’s movement outside him allowed Yamal to come infield. For his goal, a shoulder feint created room against Adrien Rabiot; in another move, he carried across the pitch and found Dani Olmo between the lines.
His passing became equally visible against Borussia Dortmund in April 2025. UEFA highlighted a lifted ball to Raphinha at the back post and a pass between two defenders to Fermín López; both helped create goals for Robert Lewandowski. These sequences explain why his threat extends beyond beating his immediate marker: he can connect the winger’s starting position with runners elsewhere in the attack.
With Barcelona, he helped win LaLiga, the Copa del Rey and the Spanish Super Cup in 2024/25, then added another league title in 2025/26. On 19 July 2026 he started Spain’s World Cup final victory over Argentina, as Ferran Torres’s extra-time goal added a world title to his European championship.
Lamine Yamal currently plays for Barcelona as a right winger. He has represented Spain internationally.

They play the same position for England and Spain, so when the countries meet they don't mark each other; in competitive games they have met twice, in the EURO 2024 final and at Wembley, and Spain won both.
