Overview

FC Cincinnati in brief

FC Cincinnati were founded in 2015 as a United Soccer League team, owned by a group led by Carl Lindner III. At the University of Cincinnati's Nippert Stadium the club set USL attendance records, reached the 2017 U.S. Open Cup semifinals after beating MLS sides Columbus Crew and Chicago Fire, and won the 2018 USL regular-season title. It joined MLS in 2019 and moved to TQL Stadium in the West End in 2021. The colours are orange and blue, and the crest shows a winged lion.

The first MLS seasons were hard: Cincinnati finished bottom of the overall table in 2019, 2020 and 2021. The turnaround came under Pat Noonan, appointed head coach in December 2021. After a first playoff appearance in 2022, the 2023 team won the Supporters' Shield with 69 points, Luciano Acosta was named league MVP, and the club reached the Eastern Conference final, losing 3-2 after extra time to Columbus Crew.
