Reims hold off Nancy fightback to win at Stade Marcel Picot
Reims won 2-1 away to Nancy in a Ligue 2 round six fixture at Stade Marcel Picot, moving further clear in the table while Nancy's disappointing home form continued. The visitors led at half-time thanks to two first-half goals and resisted a late Nancy revival to secure the points.
AI-assisted match report written from official match data.
Yaya Fofana opened the scoring in the 29th minute, converting an assist from Sambou Soumano, before C. Kouranfal doubled the lead in the 38th minute with Armel Zohouri providing the assist, sending Reims in 2-0 up at the break. Nancy pulled one back through Nordine Kandil in the 78th minute, but could not find a second goal to level the match.
Reims arrived on the back of an unbeaten run and departed having stretched their advantage in second place, while Nancy remain seventh after a fifth match without a home win. Despite Nancy holding more of the ball, it was Reims' clinical finishing either side of the interval that proved decisive.
Yaya Fofana scored the opening goal and finished with a match rating of 7.46, the highest of any player on view.
Nancy dominated possession with 59% of the ball but could not convert that control into a winning outcome.

Sirius · Why these numbers
Before kick-off Sirius gave Nancy 18%, the draw 19%, Reims 63%. It finished Nancy 1–2 Reims.
Reims' rating gap outweighs Nancy's home ground — Reims are clearly the stronger side on our strength rating, and the early-season home fade on top gives Reims a clear lead. The draw at 19% is lifted by the early-season fade in home wins.
Why Reims at 63%?
Reims sit 347 points higher on our strength rating — 1392 to 1739. Sides with a more than 300-point rating edge on the road won 65.9% of 5,242 such games. Both sides are inside their first six league games — home wins land softer this early in the season, so this trims Nancy's column. Across 11,040 opening-stretch games since 2010, home sides won 42.7% where the rating map expected 44.9%, with draws up 2.0 — negative in every season since 2018. The 300 most similar past games finished 22–17–61.
Why only 63%?
No scored evidence points the other way. 63% is what this rating gap has been worth in games like these; the rest is the draw at 19% and Nancy at 18%.
Why is the draw only 19%?
With a rating gap this size the draw starts at 18.0%. These teams' recent games average 3.3 goals — a high-scoring environment. Games in that environment drew 22.8% of 17,172. Early-season fixtures add 2.0 points to the draw. The goals environment takes 1.5 points off the draw.
What did we measure but not count?
Reims average 11 points more possession, but the rating gap here is 347 points. Our control receipt only exists between near-equals — there it moved results; across a class gap we could not measure a separate style edge, so style scores 0 here. Reims have rebuilt the eleven — fewer of last season's regular starters are still starting. Squad turnover reads dramatic but hasn't moved results once the rating is controlled: the busiest windows landed within noise across 5,368 games, rebuilt elevens likewise across 5,446, and even losing the most regular starters showed nothing (5,336). The other measured facts on this page scored nothing either.
