Porto come from behind to beat Maritimo and stay top
FC Porto came from behind to win 2-1 at Maritimo in Matchday 8 of the Primeira Liga, a result that kept them first in the table on 24 points from eight matches. Maritimo, 11th with eight points, led for much of the first half but could not hold on.
AI-assisted match report written from official match data.
The hosts went ahead in the 16th minute when Gábor Szalai finished a move created by Maxime Dominguez. Porto levelled shortly before the interval, Victor Mow Froholdt scoring in the 42nd minute to make it 1-1 at half-time.
The decisive goal arrived in the 84th minute. Jakub Kiwior supplied the pass and Oskar Pietuszewski scored to put Porto 2-1 up, and the visitors saw out the closing stages. The match produced three goals in all and no red cards, with each side committing 15 fouls.
Porto controlled much of the contest, holding 58 per cent of possession and having the better of the chances throughout, which gave their late winner a sense of inevitability against a Maritimo side who had mustered little after their early lead.
Oskar Pietuszewski scored the 84th-minute winner and was the top-rated performer, with a rating of 7.72. Jan Bednarek (7.54) and Jakub Kiwior, who set up the goal, were next on the list.
Porto had 19 shots to Maritimo's 7, underlining how heavily the visitors dominated the attempts on goal.

Sirius · Why these numbers
Before kick-off Sirius gave Maritimo 9%, the draw 17%, FC Porto 74%. It finished Maritimo 1–2 FC Porto.
FC Porto's rating gap outweighs Maritimo's home ground — FC Porto are clearly the stronger side on our strength rating, and that is most of FC Porto's 74%. The draw at 17% is about what a gap this size usually leaves.
Why FC Porto at 74%?
FC Porto sit 469 points higher on our strength rating — 1363 to 1831. Sides with a more than 240-point rating edge on the road won 65.7% of 5,860 such games. The 300 most similar past games finished 7–17–76.
Why not higher?
No scored evidence points the other way. 74% is what this rating gap has been worth in games like these; the rest is the draw at 17% and Maritimo at 9%.
Why is the draw only 17%?
With a rating gap this size the draw starts at 17.6%. These teams' recent games average 2.8 goals — a typical goals environment. Games in that environment drew 24.8% of 25,118.
What did we measure but not count?
Maritimo are newly promoted — game 8 of their first ten at this level, where our rating knows them least. Promoted sides are said to struggle, but our rating already carries most of it: across 3,012 first-ten games since 2016 they won 26.8% where the rating expected 28.1% — inside the noise band, below it in six of the ten full seasons we hold and about level last season. Maritimo are 1 game into a new manager (M. van der Gaag), appointed 21 days ago. The famous new-manager bounce doesn't survive its receipt: sides with a new manager beat their rating by 0.9 points over 33,420 games — but sides on an equally bad run who kept their manager beat it by 2.4 over 31,777. The other measured facts on this page scored nothing either.
