Spain overpower France to reach World Cup final
Spain beat France 2-0 in the World Cup semi-finals to book their place in the final. Mikel Oyarzabal converted a penalty in the 22nd minute to put Luis de la Fuente's side ahead, and they held that lead through to half-time.
AI-assisted match report written from official match data.
France pushed for an equaliser after the break but could not find a way through, and Spain doubled their advantage in the 58th minute when Pedro Porro finished off a move set up by Dani Olmo. That second goal settled the contest, with France unable to muster a response despite the scoreline staying tight in terms of overall chances created.
Possession was almost evenly split at 51-49 in Spain's favour, and both sides managed ten shots apiece, though Spain edged shots on target three to two. Spain also dominated set-piece situations, winning seven corners to France's one, a sign of the control they exerted for long spells without needing to overwhelm their opponents statistically.
Porro scored the decisive second goal and finished with a rating of 8.1, the highest of any player on the pitch, while Olmo's assist on that goal also earned him strong marks.
Spain's seven corners to France's solitary one underlined how much territory and set-piece pressure they generated over the 90 minutes.
Spain won 2–0 away against France (half-time 0–1).

Sirius · Why these numbers
Before kick-off Sirius gave France 38%, the draw 26%, Spain 36%. It finished France 0–2 Spain.
Level sides on neutral ground — Nothing separates them on our strength rating, and nothing else scored. The draw at 26% is what level sides usually produce.
Why France in front?
Almost nothing between them on our strength rating — 2152 to 2145. Sides this close won 45.6% of 14,379 home games (draw 26.5%, visitors 27.9%).
Why only 38%?
Because on our strength rating there is nothing in it. World Cup is played on neutral grounds: France are the listed home side but get none of the usual home lift, so the class read is re-centred. On grounds we detect as neutral, listed-home sides won 44.6% of 26,596 games vs 45.2% at real homes — so a tournament game away from a side's own ground scores the class edge venue-free, as the average of the home and away reads.
Why the draw at 26%?
Between sides this level the draw starts at 26.5%. These teams' recent games average 3.0 goals — a typical goals environment. Games in that environment drew 24.5% of 24,557.
What did we measure but not count?
France scored +0.41 goals per game beyond chance-quality — home sides this hot gave some of it back. Opponents of hot-finishing home sides won 28.1% of 1,425 games, vs 28.0% against normal finishing. France (18 fully-tracked matches with us) and Spain (19) carry strength ratings anchored to the official international ratings list, so the class read stands on far more than our own short records. National sides play too few games for a record built from scratch, so their rating chain starts from the published international ratings instead of a blind first guess.
