Ødegaard strike gives Arsenal opening win over Napoli
Arsenal opened their UEFA Champions League League Stage campaign with a 1-0 win away to Napoli at the Stadio Diego Armando Maradona, a contest that stayed goalless through a cagey first half before Martin Ødegaard settled it late on.
AI-assisted match report written from official match data.
The breakthrough came in the 75th minute when Ødegaard converted after being set up by Christos Tzolis, sending the away side's small but decisive tally of chances past Napoli's defence and moving the score to 0-1.
Napoli dominated territorially, holding 58% of possession and forcing eight shots on target from 26 attempts, including six corners to Arsenal's none, yet could not find a way past David Raya's goal. Arsenal, more clinical from just five shots and three on target, defended resolutely and held on despite picking up two yellow cards to Napoli's one.
Martin Ødegaard scored the only goal of the match in the 75th minute, converting Christos Tzolis's assist to earn an 8.2 rating and settle the contest for Arsenal.
Napoli's 26 shots to Arsenal's five reflected their dominance of the contest, even if it did not translate into goals.

Sirius · Why these numbers
Before kick-off Sirius gave Napoli 22%, the draw 23%, Arsenal 55%. It finished Napoli 0–1 Arsenal.
Arsenal's rating gap outweighs Napoli's home ground — Arsenal are clearly the stronger side on our strength rating, and that is most of Arsenal's 55%. The draw at 23% is about what a gap this size usually leaves.
Why Arsenal at 55%?
Arsenal sit 281 points higher on our strength rating — 1940 to 2221. Sides with a 200–300-point rating edge on the road won 52.0% of 6,074 such games. The 300 most similar past games finished 22–21–57.
Why only 55%?
No scored evidence points the other way. 55% is what this rating gap has been worth in games like these; the rest is the draw at 23% and Napoli at 22%.
Why is the draw only 23%?
With a rating gap this size the draw starts at 22.0%. These teams' recent games average 2.4 goals — a typical goals environment. Games in that environment drew 26.2% of 27,786. The goals environment adds 1.1 points to the draw.
What did we measure but not count?
Napoli have shed 66 strength-rating points over their last 10 games. Momentum is measured but not yet proven: sliding sides won 34.7% of 9,727 such games vs 34.6% class-expected — inside the noise band, so it stays at 0 points until the receipt clears its evidence bar. Last 4 between them: Napoli 1 win, 0 draws, Arsenal 3 wins. Most recently Napoli 0–1 Arsenal, 7 years ago. Fixture history hasn't carried forward once class is level: past leaders won just 28.1% of 5623 such games — no measurable edge, 0 points.
