Dan Ndoye put Forest ahead in the 24th minute, converting an assist from Morgan Gibbs-White to make it 0-1, and that scoreline held into the break. Forest struck again in the 70th minute when Gibbs-White converted from the penalty spot to restore their advantage at 2-1. Sirius · Why these numbers
Before kick-off Sirius gave Liverpool 58%, the draw 25%, Nottingham Forest 17%. It finished Liverpool 2–2 Nottingham Forest.
Liverpool's rating edge carries it — Liverpool are the stronger side on our strength rating, and their control of the ball on top gives Liverpool a clear lead. The draw at 25% is about what a gap this size usually leaves.
Why Liverpool at 58%?
Liverpool sit 146 points higher on our strength rating — 2014 to 1868. Sides with a 100–200-point rating edge at home won 57.1% of 12,750 such games. Liverpool hold 6 more possession points (53 to 47 in recent games) across a 146-point rating gap. Control now carries a receipt beyond near-equals too: sides with this control edge at a 75–150-point rating gap won 42.6% of 8,634 such games where the class table expected 41.3%. The 300 most similar past games finished 61–21–18.
Why only 58%?
Both sides are inside their first six league games — home wins land softer this early in the season, so this trims Liverpool's column. Across 10,761 opening-stretch games since 2010, home sides won 42.8% where the rating map expected 44.9%, with draws up 2.0 — negative in every season since 2018.
Why the draw at 25%?
With a rating gap this size the draw starts at 24.2%. These teams' recent games average 3.2 goals — a high-scoring environment. Games in that environment drew 22.8% of 17,023. The goals environment takes 2.1 points off the draw. Early-season fixtures add 2.0 points to the draw.
What did we measure but not count?
Nottingham Forest scored +0.39 goals per game beyond chance-quality lately — hot streaks like that have cooled off. Measured across 2,799 games at this rating gap, hot-finishing sides won 42.1% vs 42.9% class-expected — inside the noise band, so it scores 0 until the receipt clears its evidence bar.
