Match report
Sassuolo stun Juventus with stoppage-time winner in five-goal thriller
Sassuolo beat Juventus 3-2 in a Serie A round four fixture that swung wildly in its closing stages, with the home side scoring twice in stoppage time to complete an extraordinary comeback after Juventus had twice drawn level. The match was goalless at half-time before erupting into life after the hour mark.
AI-assisted match report written from official match data.
Sebastiano Esposito broke the deadlock in the 65th minute, finishing from Nemanja Matić's assist, only for Edon Zhegrova to equalise for Juventus in the 82nd minute. Kieran Bowie, set up by Darryl Bakola, restored Sassuolo's lead in the 89th minute, but Zhegrova struck again a minute into stoppage time, converting a chance from Randal Kolo Muani to make it 2-2.
With the match seemingly heading for a draw, Vasilije Adžić settled it in the fourth minute of added time, converting a pass from Armand Laurienté to hand Sassuolo a dramatic 3-2 victory. Juventus, who had enjoyed 55 percent possession and produced 18 shots to Sassuolo's 10, were left to rue their inability to hold a share of the points in the final moments.
Zhegrova scored twice for Juventus, including a stoppage-time equaliser, and was rated the match's outstanding performer with a 9.5 mark despite finishing on the losing side.
Juventus dominated the shot count with 18 attempts to Sassuolo's 10, yet still came away empty-handed.

Sirius · Why these numbers
Before kick-off Sirius gave Sassuolo 14%, the draw 32%, Juventus 54%. It finished Sassuolo 3–2 Juventus.
Juventus' rating gap, but the draw is in play — Juventus are clearly the stronger side on our strength rating, and the early-season home fade plus a weak Serie A home advantage on top give Juventus the lean. The draw at 32% is lifted by a low-scoring environment.
Why Juventus at 54%?
Juventus sit 298 points higher on our strength rating — 1689 to 1987. Sides with a 200–300-point rating edge on the road won 52.0% of 6,084 such games. Both sides are inside their first six league games — home wins land softer this early in the season, so this trims Sassuolo's column. Across 11,115 opening-stretch games since 2010, home sides won 42.6% where the rating map expected 44.9%, with draws up 2.1 — negative in every season since 2018. Serie A home sides under-perform the global norm — and the difference mostly flows to the other outcomes. Serie A homes won 43.2% of 6,115 games vs 44.9% across all 100,162 — outside the noise band, so the tally moves accordingly. The 300 most similar past games finished 18–26–56.
Why only 54%?
No scored evidence points the other way. 54% is what this rating gap has been worth in games like these; the rest is the draw at 32% and Sassuolo at 14%.
Why is the draw second, ahead of the Sassuolo win?
With a rating gap this size the draw starts at 25.3%. These teams' recent games average 2.1 goals — a low-scoring environment. Games in that environment drew 28.1% of 18,210. The goals environment adds 3.4 points to the draw. Early-season fixtures add 2.1 points to the draw.
What did we measure but not count?
Juventus average 6 points more possession, but the rating gap here is 298 points. Our control receipt only exists between near-equals — there it moved results; across a class gap we could not measure a separate style edge, so style scores 0 here. Sassuolo have rebuilt the eleven — fewer of last season's regular starters are still starting. Squad turnover reads dramatic but hasn't moved results once the rating is controlled: the busiest windows landed within noise across 5,368 games, rebuilt elevens likewise across 5,446, and even losing the most regular starters showed nothing (5,336). The other measured facts on this page scored nothing either.
