Sirius · Why these numbers
Before kick-off Sirius gave Lazio 34%, the draw 33%, AC Milan 33%. It finished Lazio 2–2 AC Milan.
Anyone's game — AC Milan are the stronger side on our strength rating, and the early-season home fade plus a weak Serie A home advantage is not enough to separate them. The draw at 33% is lifted by the early-season fade in home wins.
Why Lazio at 34%?
Home ground, against the rating. AC Milan sit 60 points higher on our strength rating — 1877 to 1938. Sides with a 50–100-point rating edge on the road won 33.0% of 10,621 such games.
Why only 34%?
Because AC Milan are the stronger side on our strength rating. Both sides are inside their first six league games — home wins land softer this early in the season, so this trims Lazio's column. Across 11,058 opening-stretch games since 2010, home sides won 42.7% where the rating map expected 44.9%, with draws up 2.0 — negative in every season since 2018. Serie A home sides under-perform the global norm — and the difference mostly flows to the other outcomes. Serie A homes won 43.3% of 6,112 games vs 44.9% across all 100,077 — outside the noise band, so the tally moves accordingly.
Why is the draw second, level with the AC Milan win?
With a rating gap this size the draw starts at 28.3%. These teams' recent games average 2.5 goals — a typical goals environment. Games in that environment drew 26.2% of 27,797. Early-season fixtures add 2.0 points to the draw. The goals environment adds 1.5 points to the draw.
What did we measure but not count?
AC Milan have shed 68 strength-rating points over their last 10 games. Momentum is measured but not yet proven: sliding sides won 34.7% of 9,737 such games vs 34.6% class-expected — inside the noise band, so it stays at 0 points until the receipt clears its evidence bar. AC Milan play in Europe in 4 days — the classic minds-elsewhere worry. We checked, and no: league games in the four days before a European fixture ran +1.8 points above class expectation across 4,991 games — and the same clubs beat class by +2.1 in ordinary league weeks too (11,419-game control).
