Sirius · Why these numbers
Before kick-off Sirius gave Bayern München 51%, the draw 25%, Arsenal 24%. It finished Bayern München 2–2 Arsenal.
Home advantage gives Bayern München a slight lean — With almost nothing between the sides on our strength rating, Bayern München's home advantage is the main reason we give them 51%, helped by their usual control of the ball, with 68 possession points to Arsenal's 60. The draw sits at 25%, down from a usual 28% because both teams' recent games average 3.6 goals.
Why Bayern München in front?
Almost nothing between them on our strength rating — 2064 to 2033. Sides this close won 45.8% of 13,755 home games (draw 27.7%, visitors 26.5%). Bayern München hold 8 more possession points (68 to 60 in recent games) — and between equals, control has been worth something. Between evenly-matched sides, home teams with this control edge won 48.3% of 5,170 games, vs 44.0% when styles were level.
Why only 51%?
Because on our strength rating there is nothing in it. Level sides split the rest: the draw at 25% and Arsenal at 24%.
Why the draw at 25%?
Between sides this level the draw starts at 27.7%. These teams' recent games average 3.6 goals — a high-scoring environment. Games in that environment drew 23.2% of 17,071. The goals environment takes 2.4 points off the draw.
What did we measure but not count?
Out: Joshua Kimmich and Michael Olise, star players, and Jamal Musiala, a rotation player. This does not change our forecast yet: we are still measuring how much missing players like these cost a team. Out: Christos Tzolis, an important player, and William Saliba, a rotation player. The other measured facts on this page scored nothing either.
