AI-assisted match report written from official match data.
The deadlock held until the 58th minute, when Luca Kjerrumgaard put Watford ahead. Charlton, managed by Nathan Jones, found no reply despite an active spell of pressure from the hosts, and the game stayed at 1-0 deep into stoppage time.
Jordan Zemura settled it in the 90+4 minute, scoring from a Rocco Vata assist to make it 2-0. Watford had 22 shots to 14, with 10 on target to Charlton's three, while possession was almost even at 51 per cent to 49.

Sirius · Why these numbers
Before kick-off Sirius gave Watford 33%, the draw 29%, Charlton 38%. It finished Watford 2–0 Charlton.
Charlton's stronger rating gives them a slight edge — Charlton lead mainly because they sit 95 points higher on our strength rating, 1351 to 1255, though Watford's habit of controlling the ball, 49 to 39 in possession recently, pulls some of that back. The draw sits at 29%, up from the usual 28% for a gap this size because Championship games draw a little more often.
Why Charlton at 38%?
Charlton sit 95 points higher on our strength rating — 1351 to 1255. Sides with a 80–160-point rating edge on the road won 39.9% of 13,846 such games. Championship home sides under-perform the global norm — and the difference mostly flows to draws (26.9% vs 25.4% norm). Championship homes won 42.9% of 8,475 games vs 44.6% across all 101,264 — outside the noise band, so the tally moves accordingly. The 300 most similar past games finished 36–28–36.
Why only 38%?
Watford hold 10 more possession points (49 to 39 in recent games) across a 95-point rating gap. Control now carries a receipt beyond near-equals too: sides with this control edge at a 60–120-point rating gap won 42.7% of 8,639 such games where the class table expected 40.6%.
Why the draw at 29%?
With a rating gap this size the draw starts at 27.6%. These teams' recent games average 2.8 goals — a typical goals environment. Games in that environment drew 24.8% of 25,198. Championship runs draw-heavy, adding 1.6 points.
What did we measure but not count?
Watford have shed 73 strength-rating points over their last 10 games. Momentum is measured but not yet proven: sliding sides won 34.1% of 9,610 such games vs 33.4% class-expected — inside the noise band, so it stays at 0 points until the receipt clears its evidence bar. Charlton won 3 of the last 6 meetings with Watford. The record is 3 wins for Charlton, 2 draws and 1 win for Watford. These were 6 Championship games played at both grounds between 14 September 2013 and 6 April 2026. Latest meeting: 6 April 2026 — Watford 1–1 Charlton. In 5,653 historical matches between similarly rated teams, visiting sides with the stronger head-to-head record won 28.1%.
