Oblak keeps Scotland out in Pocognoli's first match
Jan Oblak made five saves as Slovenia held Scotland to a 0–0 draw in Ljubljana in their opening Nations League Group B1 fixture. Sébastien Pocognoli's first Scotland match brought a clean sheet but no winning goal, despite the visitors finishing with 17 shots to Slovenia's four and 65% possession. The totals obscure a shift in the match: Slovenia began with more threat and Vanja Drkušić headed against the post before Scotland's pressure mounted after half-time.
AI-assisted match report written from official match data and the sources linked below.
Slovenia played without Benjamin Šeško after their association reported a shin injury. Scotland, meanwhile, had arrived with a refreshed squad: the Scottish FA said more than half of Pocognoli's 27 players had not been involved in the summer World Cup. Scotland defender Stephen Welsh told BBC Scotland that a half-time change of shape helped his side gain more control. Scotland created a one-on-one chance for Oliver McBurnie after the break, but Oblak stopped him and the visitors could not find a winner.
The next test comes quickly: Slovenia host North Macedonia and Scotland host Switzerland on Tuesday. The League B group winner goes up to League A and the runner-up enters a promotion play-off. A point keeps both options open, but turning opportunities into goals will be an immediate priority for Scotland when Pocognoli takes charge at home.

Sirius · Why these numbers
Before kick-off Sirius gave Slovenia 34%, the draw 33%, Scotland 33%. It finished Slovenia 0–0 Scotland.
Anyone's game — Scotland are the stronger side on our strength rating, and Scotland's control of the ball is not enough to separate them. The draw at 33% is lifted by a low-scoring environment.
Why Slovenia at 34%?
Home ground, against the rating. Scotland sit 65 points higher on our strength rating — 1698 to 1762. Sides with a 40–80-point rating edge on the road won 32.5% of 10,277 such games.
Why only 34%?
Because Scotland are the stronger side on our strength rating. Scotland hold 7 more possession points (46 to 39 in recent games) across a 65-point rating gap. Control now carries a receipt beyond near-equals too: sides with this control edge at a 60–120-point rating gap won 42.6% of 8,529 such games where the class table expected 40.8%.
Why is the draw second, level with the Scotland win?
With a rating gap this size the draw starts at 28.9%. These teams' recent games average 2.0 goals — a low-scoring environment. Games in that environment drew 28.1% of 18,309. The goals environment adds 3.6 points to the draw.
What did we measure but not count?
Slovenia sit -0.32 goals per game under chance-quality. For home sides we could not receipt a bounce-back — the measured cells sit inside each other's noise bands — so this is noted and scores 0. Slovenia (10 fully-tracked matches with us) and Scotland (12) carry strength ratings anchored to the official international ratings list, so the class read stands on far more than our own short records. National sides play too few games for a record built from scratch, so their rating chain starts from the published international ratings instead of a blind first guess.
